Generation Debt was created by people who just want paying back student loans to be a bit easier. We created this site to be a resource for any and all who want to research the issue of student loan consolidation refinancing, who want to make some noise about it, and who want to get their loans paid off and move on with their lives.
Diana Lamphiere is an attorney who cringes when she writes out her loan-checks-that-only-cover-interest-and-make-no-dent-in-the-principal-but-still-cost-more-than-rent every month.
Gerry Garcia is not the reincarnation of the too-soon-lost Grateful Dead frontman, Jerry Garcia. But he is grateful to have gone to college and graduate school. And he's shocked by what a long, strange trip it's been, trying to get out of debt and going on to achieve the American dream -- all because of the student loans he, like so many young professionals, had to take out to finance his education.
Liz Schwartz is a progressive activist/art director-by-day who thinks the current student loan consolidation law is ridiculous. She believes Paul Wellstone had it right... "Politics is not about power. Politics is not about money. Politics is not about winning for the sake of winning. Politics is about the improvement of people's lives. It's about advancing the cause of peace and justice in our country and in our world. Politics is about doing well for people."
